SKIN MOISTURIZATION AND HYDRATION – WHAT YOU SHOULD KNOW.

When you think about skin moisturization and hydration, the first thing that may come to mind is making sure you drink bucket loads of water. And yes, that may help your body’s largest organ keep hydrated, but what about the days when consuming enough H₂O is a struggle?

Then again there may be days you indulge in copious amounts of beverages that will leave you dehydrated—let’s not mention drinking one too many caffeinated bevvies or wines, no judgment, we promise! But the truth is excessive amounts of these can leave skin dehydrated as well. And while we’re talking dehydrated skin, do you know the difference between dehydrated skin and dry skin?

No, they’re not the same.

Dehydrated skin and dry skin: what’s the difference

Dehydrated skin is generally caused by external factors. It can be environmental impacts such as the sun, cold winds, dry air, humidity and taking hot showers. When skin is dehydrated it lacks water content.

Dry skin on the other hand is usually a genetic condition. People with dry skin have low amounts of sebum—the natural oils produced by sebaceous glands. The skin may be dry all over the body or in specific areas such as the hands and face.

So, what can you do to help your skin become plump, smooth, and supple? In this blog we’ll explore how to improve different skin types with moisturization and skin hydration.

For dehydrated skin – hydrate

Too much sun, heating or cooling can leave your skin looking worse for wear. Imagine what would happen to a grape that’s left in the sun. Likewise, when skin is dehydrated the skin cells shrivel up too! It leaves skin looking dull and accentuates any lines or signs of ageing. Now you don’t want that!

Nourish your skin with a highly concentrated serum—one that delivers powerful high quality hydrating Hyaluronic Acid.

The best way to describe a good hyaluronic acid is that it’s almost like it forms a second skin. This provides a protective layer of hydration allowing repair and revitalization to take place. In doing this, it also plumps and smooths skin helping to diminish the signs of aging. It’s a real winner for dehydrated skin.

“And if you’re having  microneedling it delivers hydration to rejuvenate and hydrate skin post-treatment. Otherwise, apply as part of a skincare routine and I highly recommend you follow with a good moisturizer .

For dry or normal skin – moisturize.

If your skin is classified as normal, a good quality moisturizer will do the trick. However, if you have dry skin—you know the type, flaky, peeling, rough-textured, you may need to lather on the moisturizer, one with a thick consistency. This will help form a protective seal on the skin surface to lock in moisture.

We have amazing moisturizers and barrier protection serums to assist with this skin condition. It’s the perfect moisturizer for skin conditions including sensitive skin, xerosis, dermatitis and eczema but also great for normal skin too.

To get the best out of your moisturizer, it’s recommended to be applied after a premium quality corrector or serum. Applying your moisturizer on top will seal the actives to maximise skin enrichment.

For oily or problematic skin – moisturize or hydrate

Oily skin is a result of overactive sebaceous glands. If the excess oil on the skin is not managed, it becomes a magnet for dirt, sweat and a heap of dead skin cells. If you can imagine the impact of adding fuel to a fire, you can understand how oily skin can trigger problematic skin. Breakouts and acne, whiteheads, and blackheads, are just some of the concerns of problematic skin. But the good news is that it doesn’t need to be a problem.

For this type of skin, moisturizers specifically developed for oily skins helps balance oil production by reducing pore-clogging oils. Salicylic Acid in some of these products is oil-soluble so it can penetrate the skin to unclog pores while exfoliating the top layer of the skin. Amazing!

These moisturisers is incredibly light, which is exactly what you need for oily and problematic skin types and contains ingredients with natural healing and antibacterial properties and Niacinamide for its anti-inflammatory properties to calm and soothe skin.
